Current Crafting

Welcome! Come on in and stay awhile…. I’ll put some tea on to boil and get you some goodies to nibble on while we catch up on everything crafty.

August

I love yarn! I’ve been finishing up a crochet sea turtle blanket for a customer and I’ve started making pocket shawls so they’ll be ready in time for cooler weather. Look for photo updates of both as I go along on my Instagram (@craftycurlyrae).

Summer soap release is a success! A new batch of my signature blend, Mindful Magnolia, is ready and wow are these bars big! Weighing in at at least 4 ounces, it’s sure to last especially if you allow the bar to dry between uses. Balsam Pine is a woodsy, grounding scent. There’s my new woodgrain Sandalwood soap, always a crowd pleaser. Blackberry Cucumber is light and refreshing and contains chia seeds for exfoliation as you lather up. Clean Hippie has the classic scent of patchouli. Waiting in the wings is a new batch of Lavender soap, another classic crowd pleaser.

The Come Out and Play Sculpture Show will be virtual this year, so if you’ve been directed here by their website, welcome! I’m glad you stopped by.

April 2020

The last two years have been full of change in my life and April 2020 is no exception. With the changes brought about in all of our lives due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I’ve been crafting masks. I haven’t indulged in many creative endeavors but have included gardening and I’d like to continue to make more soap.

Speaking of soap, I’ve got a few new bars ready which include a honeysuckle orange, spearmint basil, and a patchouli soap. Lily of the Valley soap will be back in stock too!

June 2018

Is it hot in here or is it just me? Summer heat is upon us here in North Carolina and I try to stay indoors to keep cool. The best way to know what I’m crafting and staying busy with is to follow me on Instagram. Just look for me @craftycurlyrae – I’m always happy to add to my instafamily.

I’ve been soaping a lot lately and my June rollouts are already hitting the website. Look for Camo – melon, with my unisex tea tree pine and unscented soaps not far behind. July I’ll have my Eno Forest Salt bars back in stock along with a big batch of honeysuckle loaves. New ideas and loaves are a regular occurrence so check back often to see what’s new.

I’m still crocheting and I’m planning on adding a new cat toy soon. There’ll also be a new mixed bag- a group listing of several of my cat toys all for 1 price. Meanwhile I’m quite interested in crochet wearables and I’ve got a vest on my hook as I type this. I’d love to have a crop top or bralette available too but finding a decent pattern has proven challenging.

What are your plans as schools let out and the dog days of summer are upon us?

April 2018

Spring has sprung! What’s new besides all the wonderful things in bloom? I finished New Blue quilt last month, just in time for several big snow storms up north and her new owners couldn’t be happier. I’m currently sewing 2 commissioned twin sized quilts and you can find updates on instagram (@craftycurlyrae #sdpurpletwin). I’ll be making 3 keepsake pillows for a customer this month and I also have an Eagles football fan looking forward to a team colored lap quilt, perfect for watching the new season later this year.

By the way, I welcome your ideas for creations! I had a customer ask if I could make a puppy belly band for her totally potty trained, yet highly excitable dog, and it was a fun project to stretch my skills in a new direction (I hope she sends photos! Rue is such a photogenic fellow). Please don’t hesitate to ask if I can make something for you. Just because you don’t see it on my website doesn’t mean it can’t be done. I LOVE a challenge and we’ll talk through your conception until completion and delivery.

I’m still crocheting and I’ve been busy designing new earrings. Lightweight and stylish, be sure to look for them in my shop soon. Plus I’ve got a multicolored shawl to finish and I’m always making little baby hats with matching booties.

SOAP! I’ve been bitten by the soaping bug again. My best seller, Lily of the Valley, will be back in stock April 14. I made my first shaving soap bar which provides copious amounts of bubbles and a gentle sandalwood scent great for men or women. It includes kaolin clay for a nice glide and skin-loving ingredients to soothe and moisturize. My newest soap loaves were inspired by the upcoming Cinco de Mayo celebration and you can find it locally at the Buckhorn flea market in Mebane, NC on April 28. It has the most delicious pineapple cilantro scent! It’ll be on my website too, for those of you that can’t stop by locally. I’ve got tons of ideas for the upcoming summer season (watermelon, blackberry pear, and a new sunset landscape) so be sure to stay tuned for all my crafty concoctions! I welcome your ideas too and a great way to contact me is via www.facebook.com/craftyshmoo with a private message.

2018 is Busy, busy, busy!

Winter weather finds me crocheting and I’ve been working on several projects including a shawl, an infinity scarf,  several hats and a handful of cat toys. Meanwhile I’m in the home stretch of finishing “New Blue”! A queen sized quilt journey I will not soon forget. Learn more on social media with the hashtag #newbluequilt

I’m on instagram! Come see what crafty shenanigans I’m getting into and follow me @craftycurlyrae for daily updates and inspiration.

Coming Soon!

I have some new soaps ready 🙂 I’ll have them listed in my shop soon.

Gardenia soap with bentonite clay,  tomato & charcoal soap, an updated eucalyptus spearmint soap,  and a new batch of Mindful Magnolia soap. ALSO, my new ocean landscape soap smells as good as it looks!

Do you love glycerin soap? Going back to my beginnings as a soaper, I made a beautiful batch of Sea Glass soap that is simply gorgeous. Look for it in my shop!

Autumn Plans:

I’m tired of the hot, humid summer already so thinking about the cool autumn air gets me excited. I’m cooking up a new batch of fall-themed soaps that I can’t wait to share with you: chai, pumpkin and something warm and appley.

I’ve been crocheting slippers and hats for those cool evenings to come.  I’d love to find time to make a shawl or other warm attire too.
